 Recommended Essential Oils Minimize

The Institute of Spiritual Healing & Aromatherapy recommends only the use of essential oils that have been tested and verified to be of therapeutic quality. There are international standards for therapeutic-grade essential oils: ISO (International Standards Organization) and AFNOR (Association French Normalization Organization Regulation) standards are generally the two referred to most often. The AFNOR standards state the percentages of certain chemical constituents that must be present for an essential oil to be considered therapeutic grade. In order to gain the AFNOR stamp of approval, the oils must be sent to France for testing. A third standard is the EC (European Community) which is considered to be the "gold standard" now for essential oils.

HTSM advises practitioners to check to see if your essential oils are marked with these standard symbols. If you are in doubt, call the company and ask what kind of testing is done on the oils to verify their therapeutic quality.

 Essential Oil Companies Minimize

The Institute of Spiritual Healing & Aromatherapy holds that there are many companies that provide therapeutic grade essential oils and do proper testing of their products. However, there are many that do not. We do not recommend that you purchase your essential oils in health food stores where the quality is most likely perfume grade. The following companies have been checked out by ISHA and found to have acceptable oils. With this said, there is one company that stands out above all the rest and that is Young Living Essential Oils. I can personally attest to the quality of their oils. Linda Smith, President, ISHA
